Biography

I am an Assistant Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Universidade Lusófona (Lisbon, Portugal). I received my PhD in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh, where I trained in the AI in education group. I then pursued postdoctoral work in Complex Systems, further shaping my career focus on technology-mediated networked communication dynamics. My research spans various subfields, from creating data-driven tools that enhance students’ dialogical skills to using AI to analyse collective behaviours emerging from social network dynamics.

As the director of the MSc programme in Data Science at Universidade Lusófona, I focus on supporting graduate students in developing strong interdisciplinary foundations to study socio-technological systems and achieving a solid balance between quantitative and qualitative methods. Finally, as co-director of the Media Literacy and Civic Cultures (MelCi) Lab, I aim to bridge computational and social science approaches to understand how young citizens engage in digital environments. I am committed to developing AI tools that can be used to foster meaningful and impactful social conversation and provide young people and society at large with valuable tools to navigate an increasingly complex hyperconnected information ecosystem.
